Cardinal Football Week 2 Opponent Preview – NORTHEAST, GOOSE LAKE

MAQUOKETA FOOTBALL WEEK 2 OPPONENT PREVIEW – NORTHEAST REBELS

Northeast comes off a 32-27 Week 1 home loss to Durant. In that game sophomore QB Maxzen Eskildsen surprised many in his varsity debut; Completing 26/36 (72%) of his passes, throwing for 300 yards and 2 TDs, and running for another 85 yards and 1 TD. Jade Mielk and Cael Kluever did most of the team’s pass-catching, each finishing the night with double-digit receptions and over 100-yards receiving.

The Northeast defense had a tough time slowing down Durant’s offense as they had one of the craziest stat-lines you’ll ever see through the air. Wildcat QB Trey Ramer III attempted just 4 passes on the night, all of them completions, 3 of them for touchdowns to receiver Colby Gast, and 172 yards; to average an absurd 43 Yards Per Attempt/Completion. It seemed the run set up the pass as the Wildcats put up 210 yards on 31 rushing attempts, averaging nearly 7 yards-per-carry, and 2 TDs on the ground as well.

The Rebels come off a very successful regular season, finishing 7-2 after starting 7-0, losing their final two games to Anamosa (41-0) and Mediapolis (21-6). This game is a rematch of Week 3 last season when Northeast beat Maquoketa 39-33 in a very exciting game in Goose Lake. Northeast did graduate their star player from last year though; Gavin Kramer, who accounted for over 2,300 yards and 31 TDs.

Maquoketa kicks off their week 2 matchup against the Northeast Rebels Friday, September 5th in Maquoketa at Goodenow Field at 7:15 pm. Listen to live coverage of the game anywhere for FREE on the KMAQ.com livestream or the KMAQ Radio mobile app. If you’re in the coverage area, you can listen on 95.1FM/1320AM.
