Reminder for safety when walking/running near traffic in the dark

A quick reminder to those who are outside by roads or streets when it is dark. A concerned citizen called in to the Maquoketa Police Department about a couple people running and walking on or near roads without the proper attire. It is important for anyone who may be near a road when it is dark to wear lighter colored or even reflective clothing.

If you wear dark clothing at night it is much harder for drivers to see you from their vehicles. Wearing light colored or reflective clothing makes you much more visible to drivers, and less likely for an accident to occur. The sooner and further way a driver can see someone, the more time they have to allow for space or their reduce speed.

Always take the necessary precautions when walking on or near any roads, as being more visible means being more safe.
