KMAQ Sports Update – Aug 11, 2025

In St. Louis Cardinals action: the birds take the weekend series over the Chicago Cubs 2 games to 1. Cardinals win Friday 5-0, lose Saturday 9-1, and take last night’s game 3-2. St. Louis begins another 3-game home series tonight, this one against the Colorado Rockies. Pregame coverage begins at 5:50 right here on KMAQ. 

Last night in the WNBA, Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson made history putting up the first 30/20 game on record. Wilson finished with 32 points and 20 rebounds in Las Vegas’s 94-86 win over Connecticut. 

Huge news out of the fight world this morning as the UFC has agreed to a 7-year $7.7 billion dollar exclusive media rights agreement with Paramount. Beginning in 2026, All UFC events will be streamed on Paramount+, with select events also broadcast on CBS. This effectively ends the Pay-Per-View model, which the UFC has used for years. 

In golf news: Justin Rose won the FedEx St. Jude Championship yesterday. Rose made up a three-shot deficit over the last five holes against Tommy Fleetwood, and then made two birdies in a playoff against U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun. He closed with a 3-under 67 for his 24th victory worldwide that puts him back into the top 10 in the world at age 45 and secures his spot in another Ryder Cup. Rose made six birdies over the last eight holes he played, the last one a 10-foot putt on the third playoff hole, for the victory.
