U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley talks about bipartisanship

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley was in Maquoketa yesterday at the Jackson County Courthouse. He spoke with the Jackson County Prevention Coalition, as well as members of local media.
At the start of the meeting he said that he likes to meet his constituents in smaller face-to-face groups and spaces like the Community Room in the Courthouse. He went on to say that he considers elected officials like himself and his peers to be one half of the process, and voters the other half that make up our democracy and government. He also encourages those who wish to, to reach out and communicate with him through email and phone calls.
One topic that Senator Grassley spoke and answered questions about was bipartisanship and collaboration across the aisle. Grassley feels as though the media loves to cover the disagreements, but not when they work together. He does not believe that the division between party officials is as bad as many media outlets make it appear.
According to Senator Grassley, the Senate often requires and incentivizes bipartisan agreement more than the House of Representatives does. Grassley also said that both Biden and Trump didn’t try to bridge the gap between Republicans and Democrats during their campaigns, which the media only made worse.
