Dubuque County “Mowing to Monarchs”

The Dubuque County Conservation is continuing its efforts in reestablishing native plants in the county. The “Mowing to Monarchs” program aims to help landowners in reintroducing native plants and pollinators back into the ecosystem, one lawn at a time. According to the initiatives website the native plants are both beautiful and hardy, and that once established they resist drought, outcompete weeds for resources, and help in strengthening local ecosystems and native pollinators. All of this can be done with a relatively small portion of land too, about 100 square feet, which is be filled with beautiful native flowers and plants. Those interested can commit to a 3-year stewardship agreement while getting aid and resources necessary to be successful.
