Thunderstorm damages & updates

Another round of severe thunderstorms rolled in across Iowa again early this morning, bringing with it damaging heavy rain and winds. The Jackson County Police Department has received several calls and reports about downed trees and powerlines, some of which were blocking roads and creating hazards in the area. The storm also knocked out power in some areas throughout the state, with Jackson County being one of the affected areas. At the height of the storms over 20,000 people were reported without power throughout the state, and as of 8:51 a.m., the reported number of people without power here in Jackson County is around 170.

Storms are going to continue throughout today and this evening, bringing with them even more rain and wind that could lead to further damages, with an estimated 1-2 inches of rain to be expected with each round. The National Weather Service has also issued a flood watch for many Iowa and Illinois counties, with Jackson County being one of them.  The flood watch is in effect from now through the overnight until 1 a.m. tomorrow. So make sure to keep an eye out for higher water levels near any bodies of water, and for flooding in any low-lying spots near your structures.
