A couple accidents happened in the area recently. At 5AM on the 17th, 25 year old Benjamin Hayes of Maquoketa hit a deer when traveling North on US Hwy 61. He was driving a 2014 Chevy pickup truck when a deer jumped into the road. When he stuck it the airbags in his vehicle deployed, resulting in Hayes sustaining some minor abrasions from them, but they did not require treatment. The truck was privately towed and no citations were issued.
Then on the 22nd at 6:16AM, 41 year old Maya Webb of Le Claire hit a deer with her Brown 2012 GMC. The incident happened at the intersection of 63rd St Maquoketa and Hwy 61 when she was heading South. A deer jumped out of the ditch and she was unable to avoid a collision with it.
