Former Davenport Mayoral Candidate Arrested for Sexual Assault

Former Davenport mayoral candidate Brandon Westmoreland has been arrested for sexual abuse of an intoxicated woman while she was incapable of giving consent. The woman had woken up feeling as though she had been assaulted, and a DNA rape kit test identified Westmoreland as her assaulter. The charge against him is a Class-C felony and his bond has been set at $10,000. He has waived his preliminary hearing and his arraignment is set for August 14th. Earlier this year he was also sentenced to a 10 year suspended sentence and 2 years probation for an assault and burglary charge.
