Severe Storms Powered Through The Area

Severe thunderstorms rolled through the area last night, causing power outages, flash flooding, and damage to trees, and buildings. According to The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, Jones, Jackson, and Dubuque Counties had the strongest winds with some towns & cities losing power. Storm Reports from the National Weather Service indicate that several 4-6 inch tree limbs fell in Maquoketa, along with several buildings destroyed near LaMotte between D55 & Highway 52. That also caused power poles to lean towards the ground. In Zwingle a large tree snapped at its base, and in Bernard numerous trees were down and blocking the main road in town. Davenport had several branches down, and along with flash flooding. The National Weather Service then issued a rare Flash Flood Emergency for the Quad Cities which was a first for the Quad Cities Area. It was a first for the Quad Cities office to issue that for flash flooding in an urban area.  While flooding wasn’t much of an issue here in Maquoketa there were some people with standing water across the town.
