Jimmy Saunders Retires After 36 Year Career at KMAQ Radio

Well it has been a day here at KMAQ Radio and a day that Jimmy has been looking forward to. On October 1st, 1988 Jimmy was hired at KMAQ Radio and worked a night shift. On July 11th, 2025 after 36 very long years Jimmy retired. Jimmy shared with me some of the people who he was grateful for helping him out over the years.

While Jimmy loved working at the station there is something that he will NOT miss about working at the station.

As you may know there is a saying around our KMAQ Studios and that is there is never a dull moment around here. In fact Jimmy recalls something that Former KMAQ Morning announcer Rusty Lietz did that makes him laugh still to this day.

Now as you may know Jimmy loves music and some songs more than others. When Jimmy was asked what his favorite song was, he responded with a country song.

Well Jimmy was very excited to have his party on Friday he was surprised that someone couldn’t make it. However thanks to today’s technology Jimmy was able to hear from someone who helped him over the years.

Now while the storm did knock us off the air Friday night Jimmy did share his last words with us that he wanted you to know.

So to Jimmy from your wonderful KMAQ Family and on behalf of the entire City of Maquoketa we say thank you to a wonderful and successful 36 year career here at KMAQ Radio, and wish you all the luck in your retirement. We can’t wait to see you around the station and the community.
