Iowa Department of Education Launches Statewide Partnership with National Math Stars

The Iowa Department of Education has launched a new statewide partnership with National Math Stars, a program dedicated to supporting students with exceptional math talent. Third graders who scored in the top 2% on this spring’s Iowa Statewide Assessment were invited to apply. These students, from both public and non public schools, represent all backgrounds across the state. Education Director McKenzie Snow called the initiative “groundbreaking,” saying the fully funded, 10-year program will offer students one-on-one math mentoring, advanced tech tools, Science, Technology, Engineering, and math also known as STEM summer experiences, and personalized guidance through high school. 709 public and 55 non public school students were eligible. Of those, 433 families applied by the June 15 deadline. Students selected will be named Iowa’s first National Math Stars on August 15th. National Math Stars’ founder says Iowa is leading the nation in supporting top young math learners. To learn more, visit nationalmathstars.org.
