Sports Update – 7/3/25 – KMAQ Sports

Last night in local high school sports:

The Central DeWitt baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Bettendorf, 5-3 and 3-0

The Bellevue and Marquette Catholic consolidated softball team swept Alburnett in a doubleheader, 5-4 and 6-5

The Northeast baseball team narrowly fell to Dubuque Wahlert Catholic, 1-0 

The Easton Valley softball team is swept in a doubleheader by North Linn, 10-0 and 14-3

The Maquoketa baseball team was edged by West Delaware, 3-2, that game was heard on KMAQ AM. 

And the Maquoketa softball team fell to 10th-ranked North Scott, 11-1, that game heard on KMAQ FM. 

Today in local high school sports:

The Central DeWitt baseball team travels to Muscatine for a doubleheader

The Central DeWitt softball team travels to Eldridge to play a doubleheader at North Scott

And The Northeast softball team is hosted by Wapello for a doubleheader

In St. Louis Cardinals action, the birds fell 5-0 and were shut out for the third game in a row as they were swept in a three-game series by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cardinals have the day off but are back in action this holiday weekend against the Chicago Cubs. 

In NBA news:

Former number 1 overall draft pick DeAndre Ayton is signing a 2 year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. This comes after the center agreed to a contract buyout with the Portland Trailblazers. 

The New York Knicks are hiring former coach of the year Mike Brown to be their next head coach. Brown’s last tenure was with the Sacramento Kings.
