Fireworks Safety Tips

With fireworks lighting up the skies this season, the National Safety Council is reminding everyone to stay safe if you’re planning to set off your own.
Here are some key safety tips:
- Never let young children handle fireworks.
- Older children should only use them under close adult supervision.
- Stay sober—never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
- Never hold lit fireworks in your hand or light them indoors.
- Always use fireworks outdoors, away from people, homes, and anything flammable.
- Don’t point or throw fireworks at anyone.
- Light only one device at a time and back away quickly.
- Never ignite fireworks in a container or try to re-light duds.
- Soak used and unused fireworks in water before throwing them away.
- Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby for emergencies.
- And remember—never use illegal fireworks.
