Highway 151 Near Cascade Incident Revealed

A high-risk traffic stop early this morning turned violent in eastern Iowa. Around 4:25 a.m., multiple law enforcement agencies stopped a vehicle on Highway 151 near the Highway 136 interchange as part of a multi-jurisdictional investigation.

During the stop, the male suspect, who was alone in the vehicle, pulled a handgun. Gunfire was exchanged, injuring a Dubuque County Sheriff’s deputy and fatally wounding the suspect. The deputy was first taken to MercyOne in Dubuque, then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is reported to be in serious but stable condition.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is handling the case. There is no ongoing threat to the public. Officers involved have been placed on Critical Incident Leave, which is standard procedure.
