Former Teacher and Band Director Gets A March Commissioned For His Work
The timber city band also performed at the event kicking off their 51st season.
That was a new song called Timber City March that was commissioned to Jay Kahn, the former Maquoketa Middle School Band Director for 43 years, who has been directing the Timber City Band for 38 seasons. About 2 weeks ago the Dubuque Wind Symphony was able to dedicate that Timber City March to Jay Kahn. The Timber City March was composed by Nick Talarico. It was dedicated to Jay from Nolan and the Tri-State Wind Symphony in honor of Jayâs long and distinguished career in Maquoketa, and his tenure as director of the Timber City Band. KMAQ was able to talk with Jay about how he felt hearing played publicly for the first time.
KMAQ also asked Jay about how often we could hear the Timber City March be played.
KMAQ was also able to speak with Nolan who had the idea to dedicate the march to Jay.Â
Jay Kahn has been a major advocate for music in the community for several decades.Â
