City of Maquoketa is Reminding Residents of The Local Brush Pile

The City of Maquoketa is reminding residents about the Birch Drive site—an important resource for both storm cleanup and sustainable landscaping. Located on Birch Drive in the industrial loop, this city-run site serves multiple purposes. Residents can drop off tree, shrub, and landscape waste year-round—and after major storms, it’s the central collection point for damaged branches and debris.
Once or twice a year, the City brings in a mulching company to grind up the collected waste. That mulch is then made available free of charge to the public for use in gardens, around trees, or for other landscaping projects. If you plan to take a large load, officials ask that you contact the Public Works Department ahead of time. And keep in mind—contractors are not allowed to dump material at the site.
The area also stores recycled materials like road millings, stone, and lime. These are reused for city roadwork, but may be available to residents for private projects. Public Works staff are typically on-site Mondays and Fridays to help coordinate pickups.
To arrange materials or get more information, call Maquoketa Public Works at 563-652-4628.
