New Scam Targeting Iowa Residents

Another new scam is going around the area.  This time a text message comes in saying it is from the Iowa Motor Vehicle Administration and that they are enforcing a final notice of penalties that start on June 22nd.  The text also says that if you don’t make the payment they would report it to the DMV violation database, suspend vehicle registration, suspend driving privileges, transfer to a toll booth and charge 35%, and that you may be prosecuted and that your credit score will be affected. According to the Jackson County sheriff’s office this is a scam text. The phone number that is being used originates from the Philippines and the number starts with a 63. Also another giveaway that this is a scam, is that it talks about a toll booth which Iowa does not have. They say to delete the text and ignore it.
