Mississippi River Pool13 Clean Up a Big Success

It was a big win for the environment on June 7th, as volunteers gathered for the Upper Mississippi River Cleanup in Pool 13—and what a success it was!
Participants took to the shorelines and the water—on boats, kayaks, and canoes—collecting trash along several miles of riverbanks, islands, and backwaters.
The cleanup effort was co-sponsored by the Stewards of the Upper Mississippi River Refuge, the City of Savanna, and Delta Waterfowl. Together, they tackled pollution across key areas of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge.
The Stewards, a local nonprofit conservation group, organized the event—providing gloves, trash bags, water, and volunteers.
The City of Savanna pitched in by waiving launch fees and supplying dumpsters, while Delta Waterfowl brought boats, volunteers, and funding for cleanup supplies.
Helping hands also came from the West Carroll High School football team, Jo Daviess County Natural Area Guardians, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service volunteers, and members of the public. And after the hard work, Manny’s Pizza fed the crew with some well-earned pies!
Organizers thanked everyone who made the cleanup a resounding success, leaving Pool 13 a cleaner and healthier place for both people and wildlife.
