Davenport Man Arrest After 100 MPH High Speed Chase

A 33-year-old Davenport man is behind bars after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase through the city.

According to a criminal complaint, Matthew Karr was spotted around 1 a.m. on June 8 driving a pickup truck with dual rear wheels at speeds nearing 100 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone. Police say they attempted to pull Karr over using lights and sirens, but he continued to drive recklessly, nearly losing control of the vehicle.

The pursuit stretched across several parts of Davenport, including River Drive, Boise Avenue, and Division Street, where officers say Karr sped through intersections, even appearing to go airborne at one point.

After temporarily losing sight of the truck, officers finally located the vehicle near 49th Street and Division, where it had crashed. Karr was taken into custody and reportedly admitted to fleeing from police.

Police say Karr has a prior conviction for eluding and was driving on a suspended license that is also under revocation. He is currently being held in the Scott County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
