Canadian Wildfire Smoke Will Visit The Area

Starting today smoke from wildfires burning in southern Canada is expected to drift into our area this afternoon. Forecasters say the smoke could settle closer to the surface, which may lead to a drop in air quality. That means people with respiratory conditions, as well as children and older adults, may want to take extra precautions — especially if they’re spending time outdoors. In addition to potential health impacts, the incoming smoke will likely create hazy skies across the region. While that can dull visibility during the day, there’s also a silver lining — the haze can enhance the colors of our sunrises and sunsets, creating some stunning scenes in the early morning and evening hours. Officials recommend checking your local air quality index, or AQI, and limiting strenuous activity outdoors if levels become unhealthy.
