Funnel Clouds Possible This Afternoon

Something to keep in mind this afternoon, the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities is keeping a close eye on the skies this afternoon. According to the NWS Quad Cities office, there’s a chance we could see a few funnel clouds develop with any passing showers in the area. Now, these funnel clouds aren’t expected to touch down or cause damage, but forecasters say they can still be a startling sight. The phenomenon typically occurs when there’s enough rotation in the atmosphere combined with a moist, unstable air mass, and that’s what’s currently moving through our region. While these funnel clouds usually stay weak and don’t become tornadoes they wanted to remind the public that they are possible.
