South Sabula Lake Project Open House

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District  is inviting the public to learn more about a major environmental project aimed at restoring the Sabula Lakes area of the Mississippi River.

The Corps’ Rock Island District will host an open house on Monday, May 20th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Izaak Walton League in Sabula, Iowa. It’s located at 60190 US Highway 52.

The project is part of the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program and focuses on revitalizing the Sabula Lakes—an area in Pool 13 of the Mississippi that’s seen a sharp decline in aquatic diversity and water depth over the years.

Organizers say the restoration work will aim to improve water quality and create healthier habitats for fish and other river-dependent species.

During the open house, a team of experts will present possible project features and be available afterward to answer questions and gather feedback from the community.

Again, that open house is May 20th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Sabula.
