Maquoketa Cardinals Girls Track Results

From head coach Tod Bowman

Maquoketa, IA – The Maquoketa High School track teams put on a dazzling display of speed and endurance at the Cardinal Relays Monday evening, electrifying the home crowd with record-breaking performances and multiple gold medal victories. While the girls’ team narrowly missed the overall team title, finishing a close second to Clinton by a mere seven points in the nine-team competition, their relay squads left an indelible mark on the track.

The final event of the night saw the 4×400 meter relay team of Kalyn Hackman, Natalie Hackman, Justice Armbruster, and Cora Widel blaze to victory in a near-school record time, falling just a hair over a tenth of a second shy of the school’s best. Their powerful performance has fueled their determination as they set their sights on breaking that elusive record at the upcoming Conference meet in Tipton on Thursday.

The Sprint Medley team of Rylee Wing, Millie Wing, Taylor Wing, and Cora Widel delivered a stunning performance, shaving a full second off their personal best to claim gold in a time of 1:51.09. The Distance Medley team of Rylee Wing, Millie Wing, Kalyn Hackman, and Natalie Hackman shattered their previous best time by an astounding ten seconds, clocking in at 4:26.10, which now stands as the fifth-fastest time in Cardinal history. The 4×100 meter relay team of Rylee Wing, Cora Widel, Millie Wing, and Taylor Wing dominated their race, crossing the finish line well ahead of the competition in a season’s best time of 50.33.

Individually, Justice Armbruster showcased her hurdle prowess, running away from the field in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.31. She also secured a silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles with a sharp time of 16.28. The versatile Cora Widel, in addition to her pivotal roles in three gold-medal-winning relays, also captured the individual title in the 200-meter dash with a flashy time of 25.77, making it a clean sweep of four gold medals for the talented junior.

In the distance events, Izzy Hardin continued her winning streak, claiming first place in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:03.10, while teammate Charlotte Ihns finished a strong fourth in 5:37.91. Taylor Wing thrilled the home crowd with a decisive victory in the 100-meter dash, and Ryley Galloway turned in a solid performance, finishing fourth in the same event.

Other notable place winners included the 4×800 meter relay team of Riley Buttz, Charlotte Ihns, Evelyn Nelson, and Emily Siegrist, who finished second in 12:04. Riley Buttz also secured second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.01, and Jo Ochoa leaped to a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 14 feet 2 and a half inches.

The Maquoketa track teams will now focus their efforts on the River Valley Conference Championship, set to take place in Tipton. With the momentum from their impressive home meet, the Cardinals are poised for another strong showing.
