City of Dubuque Proposing a Bear Ordinance

The City of Dubuque is proposing a new ordinance protecting people and wildlife from black bears. They will review this ordinance in a City Council meeting tonight. The proposed ordinance would make it unlawful to harass or feed bears within Dubuque City Limits. If a bear is spotted near Dubuque local authorities could then be able to tell residents to remove items that attract bears such as bird feeders or pet food for up to 10 days.  This ordinance comes after an incident last summer when a bear wandered in Dubuque  for several days.
