Board of Supervisors Holding Public Hearings

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings to solicit comments on proposed Ordinances #315 Level B Roads and #316-Level C Roads. The Jackson Secondary Roads Department plans to present ordinances on the roadway maintenance responsibilities of Area Service System B & C roads to the Board of Supervisors. Area Service System B road ordinance #315 outlines the minimum maintenance policy of Area Service System B roads and is summarized by the following: snow and ice removal will not be performed; structures may not be maintained to carry legal loads; no blading, mowing, cutting brush, road surfacing materials, shoulder maintenance, crown maintenance, road repairs, uniform width, and road inspections will not be performed on a regular basis; and all access points shall be signed appropriately to warn public of lower level of maintenance. Area Service System C road ordinance #316 outlines the establishment of C roads and access restrictions and is summarized by the following: roads may only be classified as C roads by resolution of the Board of Supervisors upon petition signed by all adjoining landowners; resolution shall specify the level of maintenance effort and persons who will have access rights to the road; public hearing shall take place prior to Board action; access to C roads will be restricted by means of a gate or other barrier; appropriate signage shall be placed to warn the public; and trespass violations. The Public Hearing for ordinance #315 will be held at 9:00 a.m., May 6, 2025, at the Jackson County Courthouse, 201 W Platt St., Maquoketa, Iowa. The Public Hearing for ordinance #316 will be held at 9:10 a.m., May 6, 2025, at the Jackson County Courthouse, 201 W Platt St., Maquoketa, Iowa. Oral and written comments are welcome.
