Maquoketa Cardinal Girls Track results from Tipton Tiger Relays

Tipton, IA – The Maquoketa Girls Track team competed well at the Tipton Tiger Relays, delivering a night of broken records, personal bests, and medal-winning performances. The Cardinals, known for their record-breaking prowess, once again lived up to their reputation at a meet with decent weather.

Junior Cora Widel set the tone early, dominating the 200-meter dash and claiming the gold medal by a significant two-second margin. Her blazing time of 25.93 seconds also broke the Tipton Tiger Relay meet record. Teammate Justice Armbruster echoed Widel’s record-breaking spirit, achieving personal bests in both her hurdle events. Armbruster’s time of 1:06.12 in the 400-meter hurdles not only earned her a medal, but also placed her third-fastest in Maquoketa High School (MHS) history and third-fastest in Class 3A. She also secured a silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.59.

The sprint medley relay team of Maelyn Kluever, Millie Wing, Taylor Wing, and Cora Widel blazed to a gold medal victory in a personal best time of 1:52.08, the second-fastest mark in school history. The 4×400 relay team of Kalyn Hackman, Rylee Wing, Justice Armbruster, and Cora Widel delivered a stunning performance, crushing their previous personal record by a remarkable seven seconds and etching their names as the third-fastest all-time in MHS history.

Taylor Wing cruised to an easy gold medal victory in the 100-meter dash with a cool time of 12.68 seconds. Teammate Ryley Galloway made a strong return from injury, placing fifth in the same event. Rylee Wing earned a bronze medal in the 400-meter dash with a season’s best time of 1:04.39. Riley Buttz glided to a personal record in the 800-meter run, finishing fifth in 2:37.94. Natalie Hackman competed in a strong field in the 1500-meter run, securing fifth place in 5:25.03. The 4×100 relay team, with freshman Ryley Galloway stepping in for Taylor Wing alongside Maelyn Kluever, Cora Widel, and Millie Wing, earned a bronze medal in a quick 51.98 seconds, the fifth-fastest time in MHS history.

Despite the numerous medal-winning performances and record-breaking achievements, the team finished fifth overall. The Cardinals will be back in action this Thursday night at the West Delaware Relays, with running events starting at 5:00 PM. Adding to the excitement, standout athletes Izzy Hardin and Taylor Wing are set to compete at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, with Hardin running the 3000 meters and Wing competing in the 100 meters. The 4×100 relay team of Rylee Wing, Cora Widel, Millie Wing, and Taylor Wing will also represent Maquoketa at Drake. Go Cards!
