Maquoketa Schools Move 5th Graders Starting In The 2025-2026 School Year

Superintendent Tara Notz was on just talk today and had mentioned that starting in the 2025-2026 school year Maquoketa 5th graders will be moving to the Maquoketa Middle School as part of the Briggs and Cardinal Elementary Schools merger. They are working on how drop off and pickup will work at the middle school with 5th grade now getting moved up. Notz also said that a lot of the other schools around the area in the conference have 5th grade in the middle school. With 5th grade moved out of the building that will free up space for just 3rd and 4th graders so they can start construction on Briggs this fall. They will start on the south side of the school and move the students to the north side of the building. So in the 2025-2026 school year Briggs will only have 2 grades 3rd and 4th while the middle school will have 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
