
Stanwood, IA – The Maquoketa Girls Track team continued their remarkable winning streak, securing their fifth consecutive invitational championship at a windy North Cedar Relays. The Cardinals showcased their talent and depth, outpacing Camanche to claim the top spot.
Taylor Wing ignited the track with an electrifying performance in the 100m dash, tying her personal best and the Maquoketa High School record with a blazing time of 12.32 seconds for first place. Junior Cora Widel matched Wing’s golden effort in the sprints, running her fastest time of the year in the 200m, clocking in at 25.99 to capture another individual gold medal for the Cardinals.
The individual victories didn’t stop there. Senior Kalyn Hackman continued her strong season, taking first place in the 400m. Justice Armbruster dominated the 400m hurdles, securing another gold medal for Maquoketa. Maelyn Kluever added to the Cardinal’s golden haul, finishing first in the 100m hurdles.
The 4×400 relay team capped off the night in style, showcasing their dominance with a commanding lead to claim yet another gold medal for Maquoketa. The Cardinals also demonstrated their strength in the relays, with the Sprint Medley team of Maelyn Kluever, Taylor Wing, Kalyn Hackman, and Cora Widel, the Distance Medley team of Millie Wing, Cadence James, Riley Buttz, and Natalie Hackman, and the 4×100 relay team of Maelyn Kluever, Cora Widel, Millie Wing, and freshman all-around athlete Riley Buttz (filling in for Taylor Wing) all securing impressive second-place finishes.
The 4×800 relay team, consisting of Evelyn Nelson, Holly Manders, Emily Siegrist, and Lou Hausmann, ran a gutsy race to finish in fourth place, contributing crucial points to the team’s championship victory. In the field events, Renee Cook and MacKayla Cavanaugh both achieved personal records in the Discus, highlighting the team’s overall strength.
Despite the windy conditions, the Maquoketa Girls Track team once again proved their mettle, securing their fifth consecutive invitational title and demonstrating their consistent excellence throughout the season.
