1 Dead in Cedar County Car Crash

On Friday the 11th at 6:50 AM there was a crash in Cedar County. According to the Iowa State Patrol a 2012 Mazda sedan was traveling southbound on Garfield Avenue near Springdale when it attempted to pass a 2014 Hyundai SUV and a 2016 Chevy pick-up truck. The Hyundai then also attempted to pass the Chevy. The Mazda took evasive action and hit the Chevy before losing control and going into the east ditch. According to the report the driver of the Mazda 36 year old Zachary Hutchinson of Clarence died in the crash. The passenger of the Mazda, 28 year old Makayla Ann Casper of Clarence was transferred to University of Iowa Health Care. No other injuries were reported. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar County 911, Cedar County Medical Examiner, West Branch ambulance, fire, and first responders, and the Tipton ambulance.
