Small Town Tradition Now Silent in Oxford Junction

A historic small town tradition has gone Silent in Oxford Junction. Everyday for over 80 years a Noon and 6 Pm a siren has sounded in Oxford Junction, and in a statement made by Mayor Brandy Hartwig which is posted on the City of Oxford Junction’s website says that the siren will no longer be sounded at noon or at 6 PM. Instead it will be reserved for an actual emergency such as a tornado or a severe weather event. The Siren will also be tested once a month. KMAQ Radio has reached out to Mayor Hartwig and has not heard back yet. We will keep you updated if we get any information.
