Dubuque Man Steals $43,000 From Mother-In-Law

A Dubuque man who pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $43-thousand dollars from his elderly mother-in-law living in a nursing home has been sentenced. On Tuesday in Dubuque County District Court, 55-year old Shawn Small was sentenced to a five year prison term on a charge of financial exploitation of an older individual. Small was arrested in August following a police investigation which started after the administrator of the care facility the woman lived at reported a large amount of money disappeared from the woman’s bank account.  Investigators say Small took the money with several A-T-M withdrawals starting in October 2022 continuing through 2023
