Maquoketa School District Could move Early-Outs to Fridays for the 25-26 School Year

The Maquoketa Community School District is looking into moving the Wednesday early-outs to Fridays for the 2025-2026 school year. According to the press release there are other schools around the area that are also considering this move. The reason for the changes include several reasons according to the school district. Those reasons include Maximizing Instructional Time, Better Alignment with the Eastern Iowa Community College, Learning Momentum by having a shorter school week it promotes better learning, More Efficient Teacher Planning, and Consistency with Neighboring Districts. The district says While there are many potential benefits, they also recognize that there may be challenges, such as adjusting to a new routine and potential increases in Friday absences. That’s why your feedback is essential as they work with the Calendar Committee and School Board to make a final recommendation.
