March 17th Maquoketa City Council

The Maquoketa City Council met yesterday evening. A splash pad being built was discussed by Scott Warren and the city council. It was recommended that the splash pad be built next to the YMCA in the grass on the west side of the property. It would be open to the public, and available to use without a YMCA Membership. This is still in the planning phase and this will be likely discussed in future meetings.
The council will have a public hearing on April 7th for the East Maple Drainage Project Plan, along with the 1015 East Platt Street real estate plans. The Council approved a 5th change order for the Sunshine Learning Center Project. It was submitted by sheets construction in the amount of $4,224 for ADA Compliance requirements for one of the bathrooms.
The City council approved to build 2 new shelters at area parks. They awarded Dave River Construction to build the shelters, with the total amount being $65,922. One shelter will be built at little bear park, while the other one will be built at 5th ward park off of summit street. These are replacing the current shelters. They are also currently replacing the parking lot at 5th ward park.
The Council also approved a bumper hitch trailer bid from Roeder Brothers in the amount of $14,200. Right now the city is having to borrow from MMEU, so having their own will make it easier for them to hull around the equipment across the city. They also approved the authorization for the Maquoketa Fire Department to sell a rural pumper to the Charlotte Community Fire Department in the amount of $50,000. According to Al Mulhousen, Charlotte will receive the truck sometime around April.
