Jackson County Supervisors Pass Wind Energy Ordinance

The Jackson County Supervisors approved the Commercial Wind Energy Conversion Systems Ordinance or C-WECS yesterday. According to the ordinance no C-WECS shall be built within 2 miles of an incorporated city limit. The purpose of this buffer is to prevent locking up prime land for potential future city expansion. The ordinance also states No C-WECS shall be allowed within the viewshed or 5 miles, whichever is greater, of the center line from each side of a Scenic Byway. The C-WECS shall be no greater than 400 feet above ground level reached by the rotator tip or any other part of the C-WECS. You may view the entire ordinance on kmaq.com.
