Prosecutors rest in Behal Murder Trial

Prosecutors Have Rested Their Case In A Scott County Murder Trial After Hearing From 14 Witnesses.  31-Year-Old Christopher Behal Is Accused Of Killing His Girlfriend Taylor Escontrias Back In March 2024. She Was 31 Years Old.  Behal Faces Charges Of First-Degree Murder And Domestic Abuse Assault With Intent To Inflict Serious Injury.  Behal’s Interview With Police Recalling What Happened The Day And Night He Is Accused Of Killing Escontrias Was Played In Court On Friday. The Interview Took Place The Morning Of March 14, 2024.  In It, Behal Is Heard Recounting Their Day Running Errands, Drinking And Talking. He Initially Told The Scott County Sheriff’s Detective That Escontrias Grabbed A Kitchen Knife During A Mental Breakdown But Later Admitted He Wasn’t Sure How The Assault Began.  Behal Said In The Interview That He Stabbed Escontrias After Hitting Her With A Baseball Bat But Said He Has No Memory Of Stabbing Her With A Screwdriver, An Item That Was Found With Her Blood On It.  After Deciding To Grab His Car Keys And Leave The Apartment, Behal Said The Next Thing He Remembers Was Waking Up In The Hospital.  The Defense Made A Motion For Judgment Of Acquittal, Saying The Case Didn’t Meet The Requirements Of First-Degree Murder Due To Behal’s Blackout. However, That Motion Was Denied By The Judge. He Said The Prosecution’s Arguments Were More Persuasive Based On The Evidence Submitted.
