Governor Reynolds issues Statement on Disaster Bill
Governor Kim Reynolds issued a statement Wednesday following the advancement of a disaster assistance bill in the Iowa house. The Iowa House recently passed a bill that funds disaster assistance for Iowans. The bill aims to protect homeowners and consumers during the insurance claims process, preventing individuals from being taken advantage of. In addition, the bill better prepares the state and communities for any future disasters. Governor Reynolds states that Iowans across our state faced unprecedented adversity in the wake of last year’s devastating tornadoes and floods. In just two months, Iowa was granted three presidential disaster declarations. Thanks to local, state, and federal partners—and the grace of selfless Iowans—we were able to help thousands displaced by the storms. Now, we must follow through in our commitment to continue to provide support for those who desperately need it, to protect Iowans working with insurance to repair or rebuild their homes, and improve our systems to respond even faster the next time disaster strikes.
