Jury Selection Starts for Davenport Man who Killed Girlfriend

Jury selection started Monday morning for 31-year-old Christopher Behal, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend last March in Park View. Scott County prosecutors filed a motion to proceed with only two charges: first-degree murder and domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury. If convicted of first-degree murder, Behal faces a mandatory life sentence. The trial comes nearly a year after deputies say Behal killed his girlfriend in the apartment they shared in Park View. According to a search warrant, Behal used multiple deadly weapons before leaving the scene. He then crashed his vehicle into a light pole in Davenport. Authorities say he was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Court documents show that Behal plans to use intoxication as his defense during the trial.
