IRS scam

Officials say that the text messages are fake and you shouldn’t respond to them Law enforcement out of Eastern Iowa is trying to warn citizens about an IRS scam going around that you need to be aware of. This is a typical scam this time of year and a good reminder to stay vigilant.

In a social media post this week, officials with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office posted a warning to everyone about an IRS scam hitting people’s text messages.

The post below is an example of one text that several people have received and made reports to authorities about. The reports came to the Clinton County Sheriff’s office after receiving phony text messages appearing to originate with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).The messages, which look like to be from a random email account, offer $1,400 as an “Economic Impact Payment”, or a stimulus check.  The IRS is not going to contact you via an iCloud email address, by the way.
