Microchip

No one wants to lose their pet, but it happens from time to time. One of the most reunification tools to consider is having a microchip implanted in the pet. One tiny pinch to your pet could be the different in whether it returns home or not.  The Scott County Humane Society, said that many believe microchips are a GPS tool, but they’re actually an animal’s way back home.

When a lost animal goes to a shelter like this, the first thing staff looks for is a microchip. Workers scan an identification number, and then start tracking the owner down. But for some pet owners in recent days, that search has been a little more complicated.

Save This Life, a national microchip and registration company, abruptly closed. According to the American Animal Hospital Association, pets with microchips from the company no longer have their owner’s information attached. The agency said owners should look into re-registering their microchips with another company.
