K-9

 A new four-legged employee at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital.

Kyah, a one-year-old German Shepherd, has been hired to help increase safety and security at the hospital. The hospital says that healthcare organizations across the country have seen an increase in potentially violent disturbances in emergency rooms and mental health departments. Kyah’s job is to help keep everyone calm.

Although Kyah is new to the job, Kyah’s  has 10 years of experience working with k-9’s in the Department of Corrections. 

The new K-9 program at St. Luke’s is being modeled after Waterloo’s Allen Hospital,which also has a K-9 unit.
