Grace Episcopal Church

20 volunteers work in and out of Grace Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids. Their efforts are to help those who need specialized medical equipment.

Things like bath benches, wheelchairs, and even beds are donated and lent out every day. While the need is consistent year-round, it often comes from a weather-related injury this time of year. One health care worker says they service all ages and all diagnoses who need this type of equipment.

Even with a wide range of clientele, any of those situations can be heightened because of precipitation in freezing temperatures.

“We see more hip fractures during this time of year, more broken shoulders, even slips with your head – hitting your head and causing brain bleeds.”

Although they see an increase in weather-related injuries this time of year,  their busiest month for needing supplies last year was in August.
