Freezing Rain Could Bring Slippery Travel Conditions
The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entire KMAQ Area, from 6:00 PM Wednesday until 12:00 AM Thursday for freezing rain. Ice accumulations could range from none to a tenth of an inch.
Travel is being not recommended in the evening hours. Roads are slick with just a glaze of ice. Reminder also the bridges and overpasses tend to ice over first.
If you have to be out in the freezing rain, here are some tips to stay safe during freezing rain events.Â
Drive slow if the roadways look wet as that could be black ice. When driving avoid any sudden maneuvers to avoid sliding around. Start slowing down before you come to a stop sign or a traffic light.
Reminder to try to keep your pets inside during a freezing rain event. Take time to salt your sidewalks, and driveways when it is safe to do so. When walking on ice waddle like a Penguin and take small steps. Also report any down power lines to local officials so they can get them repaired. If you don’t have to be out, stay home. Freezing rain can cause numerous accidents on roadways. Always check the road conditions before heading out with the Iowa 511 App or checking the Iowa 511 road conditions website. Remember Ice and Snow take it slow.Â
