Calvin Hawley in custody

– A DeWitt man has been charged with harassment and domestic assault.
According to the arrest affidavit, Calvin Hawley, 27, hit a woman in the face while driving through DeWitt on Wednesday.
After she was hit, she stopped the car and put it in park, the affidavit said. Hawley then slammed the shifter back into drive and yelled at her to take him home.
When the two got home, Hawley threatened to kill her, according to the affidavit. After he said that, he tapped on his side where she knew he routinely keeps a gun. The woman said she feared for her safety.
While reporting the incident to DeWitt police, officers found she had a red mark on her right cheek, swollen lips, a cut on her upper lip, and jaw pain, the affidavit said.
Around 6 a.m. Friday, the DeWitt Police Department and Iowa State Patrol Tactical Unit arrived at Hawley’s home with a search warrant and an arrest warrant for Hawley, a media release said.
After a brief standoff, the police said Hawley voluntarily came out of the house voluntarily and was taken into to custody.
Hawley is charged with domestic abuse, first offense causing bodily injury and first-degree harassment.
Hawley remains in the Clinton County Jail on a $2000 cash-only bond, court documents said. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 7 at the Clinton County Courthouse.
