Ruth  Eltrich- J.C. Veterans Affairs Administrator

In Jackson County we currently have 417 veterans and their families receiving a totally of $776,736 in benefits.  The State of Iowa  estimated that we have 177,922 veterans in the state of Iowa. In Jackson County, they estimated we have 1,248.

Veteran’s population has gone down from 2022 by 35, but our veteran’s benefits has gone up, and part of that is compensation ,and pension, part of that is education, vocational, rehabilitation, also includes medical care.  Because of the change in policy or charge in the pack act that was done in 2022, it opened a lot for veterans  who may not have been eligible because of their income before, but are eligible now because they were exposed to toxins.  Ruth will have information in the Maquoketa Sentinel Press.
