According to a Monday press release, the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1 HPAI) was found in a backyard flock located in Clinton County. The case is the first confirmed detection of H5N1 HPAI within domestic birds in Iowa in 2025.

On Monday, health officials confirmed the first human death from bird flu in Louisiana.

Officials said that eggs and other poultry products are still considered safe to eat. Anyone preparing the products is reminded to heat them to an internal temperature of 165°F.
