Morehead Bridge Closed until Further Notice
Jayden Scheckel the Jackson County Engineer said in a press release that due to a recent inspection completed on the Morehead Bridge on 74th Street over the Maquoketa River, the bridge has been closed until further notice. Deterioration of a main load carrying component of the bridge has progressed excessively and is deemed no longer safe for traffic. The replacement of the bridge is crucial to the reopening of the crossing. Unfortunately, there is no anticipated date for the replacement and the closure will be until further notice.
The Jackson County Engineers Office is working on applying for funding for the replacement bridge and reviewing prioritization with other future bridge replacement projects. We realize the inconvenience this places on individuals and appreciate everyone’s understanding of this matter. Public safety is of the utmost concern and is the primary reason for the closing of this bridge.
If you have any questions in regards to this closure you can contact Jayden by email at jceng@jacksoncounty.iowa.gov or by calling 563-652-4782.
