New Deep Creek Fire Department Districts

Last week in Goose Lake, the Fire Departments serving the Deep Creek Township, finalized the contract between the Deep Creek Trustees and Charlotte, Goose Lake , Miles, and Preston.
Iowa law entails township trustees to provide fire protection for their residents, and the trustees must agree on how to provide that protection in an effective and cost effect manner. These conversations on redistricting and response times came about from a vehicle accident within Miles Fire Department’s district in Goose Lake.
Jim Irwin- County Supervisors Chairman, said, “ There was a car accident where a teenage driver was thrown from her vehicle and laid in the ditch for approximately 17 minutes. It may have been longer.:
Kevin Cain-Goose Lake Fire Chief, said, “ None of us know what’s going to happen”
On July 1st, Preston’s Fire Department will serve the North West portion of Deer Creek, and its Southern portion will be moved from 160th Street to 120th Street.
The Southern portion, covered by Miles Fire Department, in the North East portion of Deep Creek will be moved from 160th Street to 130th Street. The Charlotte Fire Department will be in the South West portion of the township bordered to the North of 140th Street, to the South by 160th Street, to the East to 350th Avenue, and to the Western border of 340th Avenue. The district covered by Goose Lake Fire Department will cover the remaining area of Deep Creek. The Fire Departments will continue to serve their districts until the contracts and new district borders begin in July 2025.
Paul Maze– Miles Fire Chief, said, “ My own personal thought. I think one year is not enough. Your first year, there’s going to be bugs. There’s going to be problems.”
