Northend Mobile Home Park

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources–DNR- Northend Mobile Home Park, near Dubuque was fined $3,000 dollars for failing to follow state waste water treatment guidelines. The mobile home park neglected to install a disinfectant system in treating waste water before it was discharged into a nearby creek. The untreated waste water contained elevated levels of E.coli bacteria, which flowed into a small creek and feeds into Little Maquoketa River.
E.coli bacteria is harmful in high amounts and can destroy the health of nearby creeks and waterways, impacting both animals and people who come into contact with the bacteria, causing infections or even death, affecting the ecosystem and the food chain.
With this settlement, Northend Mobile Home Park has sixty days to pay the $3,000 dollar fine or appeal. DNR hopes this enforcement action reminds others the importance of environmental compliance to safeguard public health and preserve natural resources.
