Smoke in downtown Davenport

On November 21st, at 11:05am, in downtown Davenport, according to Geoff Greenwood-Media Relations Manager at Mid-American Energy Company, said, “ an underground transformer failed. The failure caused a strong electrical flash, and sudden release of oil from underneath a grate.”
Scott County Communications received many reports of a loud explosion and black smoke coming from the ground. The Davenport Fire Department responded and said, “they determined quickly the smoke was coming from an underground utility vault. The smoke began to go away; however, multiple areas of fire were noted underground and contained to the vault.” Specialized extinguishers were used to control the fire. No injuries reported.
