Louise A. Riggs, 67, of Monmouth, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 16, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.
Born on September 28, 1957, in Iowa City, Iowa, Louise was the daughter of John and Marvel (Behnke) Hartwig. At the tender age of nine months, she was lovingly welcomed into the home of her aunt and uncle, Lorraine and Johnny Switzer, who raised her as their own in Monmouth, where she would later attend Monmouth High School.
Louise’s life was marked by her devotion to family and her joyous spirit. She married John Burkey, with whom she had her son, Craig. Her heart found love again when she married James E. “Jim” Riggs on October 15, 1977, in Elwood, Iowa, and together they welcomed their daughter, Heather. Jim preceded her in death on August 8, 2010. In 2011, she found companionship and love with her significant other, Bill Nicodemus, with whom she shared many happy years.
Throughout her life, Louise found joy in the simple pleasures. She was a homemaker who, in earlier years, worked at WAKA Restaurant and Dolch’s Bakery in Maquoketa.
Louise’s interests reflected her love for life and her passion for creativity. She loved playing Bingo, cross-stitching and singing Karaoke. Above all, Louise cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her love for them was boundless, and she relished every moment she could share with them.
